
Affordable Housing at Brooklyn Basin Wins Real Estate Deal of the Year Award
MidPen Housing’s Paseo Estero and Vista Estero affordable housing communities at Brooklyn Basin have received a Real Estate Deal of the Year Award from the San Francisco Business Times, in recognition of the transformative role these communities play in revitalizing a former industrial site on the Oakland waterfront.
Overview
Paseo Estero and Vista Estero contain 101 and 110 units, respectively, that provide affordable rental apartments for families and seniors.
Community Amenities
Amenities at Paseo Estero Family Apartments include a multipurpose community room, computer lab, fitness center, courtyard, bicycle storage and a children’s playground. Amenities at Vista Estero Senior Apartments include a community room, computer lab, balance studio, courtyard, bicycle storage and an arts and crafts room. The projects provide housing for families and seniors earning 60% or less of area median income.
Affordable Housing at Brooklyn Basin
MidPen Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, is overseeing the development and construction of all 465 affordable housing units at Brooklyn Basin. Construction on Foon Lok West, the next phase of affordable housing at the project, is underway in Oakland and slated to welcome residents in fall 2022. Foon Lok means “Joyous Community” in Cantonese and will bring 130 affordable rental homes for low- and extremely low-income working families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Brooklyn Basin is revitalizing a former industrial site on 65 acres along the Oakland waterfront, and will eventually feature more than 30 acres of parks, 200,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, and 3,000 new residential units.
