Brooklyn Basin Receives Real Estate Deals of the Year Award

Brooklyn Basin has received a Perseverance Award from the San Francisco Business Times in recognition of the long-term vision and optimism that helped get the project, nearly 18 years in the making, to where it is today.

The master-planned community, currently under construction in phases, will contain more than 30 acres of public parks, 200,000 square feet of retail space, and more than 3,000 homes. The first residential building at Brooklyn Basin, named Orion (www.OrionOakland.com), opened to residents last fall and features 241 apartments. Township Commons, a nine-acre park along the shoreline, is expected to open to the public later this year.

Affordable housing at the project is frontloaded in the first phase and is being developed by MidPen Housing. The first 165 affordable units are on track to deliver by the end of 2020, with another 300-unit project slated to break ground later this year.

Master developer Signature Development Group, in partnership with Chinese investor Zarsion Holdings Group, has sold several parcels within the project to outside developers.

Brooklyn Basin is one of several projects throughout the Bay Area to earn recognition as one of the publication’s annual Real Estate Deals of the Year.
